Cosmetic Surgery FAQs |

Q. Will you tell me the price of the surgery procedures on the telephone? A. It is important to know that “price” alone should not guide you in selecting who will do your cosmetic surgery. Not all surgeons are the same. Research has shown that the single most important factor in the success of your cosmetic surgery is WHO you select to do your surgery. Choose a board-certified plastic surgeon you can trust and who has the qualifications, experience, and in-depth medical knowledge of the entire human body to accurately explain your options and safely manage your expectations. Anyone with a medical license can “claim” to be qualified to perform cosmetic procedures. However, only surgeons who are board certified in the specialty of Plastic Surgery meet the highest standards of experience, education and ethics. We prefer not to give price quotes for the surgery procedures over the telephone. There are variables with some patients that can only be determined by Dr. Hynes when he personally meets and examines you. These variables may affect the price of the surgery. Dr. Hynes offers a complimentary consultation and spends time answering all of your questions and determining which procedures will give you the best result for your unique body type. At the conclusion of your consultation, one of Dr. Hynes’ staff will meet with you with the costs for your surgery in writing. This will include the anesthesia fee, hospital fee, and Dr. Hynes’ surgery fee. Dr. Hynes’ fee will include all of your pre and post surgical visits to the office, the implants or garments (if any) that might be needed for your surgery, and the pain pump, if used. There are no hidden costs. Q. Is there a discount if I have more than one cosmetic surgery procedure done at the same time? A. Dr. Hynes does not discount his surgery fees. However, if you schedule more than one procedure, the anesthesia and hospital fees will be less than if you had the procedures done separately. Also, your time away from work and normal activities will be less than if the surgeries were performed separately. Q. What kind of payment options do you offer? A. We accept payments of cash, personal or bank checks, Master Card, Visa, Discover, and check payments from authorized financing companies listed on our web site. Q. Do you offer financing for cosmetic surgery? A. Our office and Dr. Hynes do not provide financing. However, we are happy to recommend some financing companies who specialize in financing cosmetic surgery and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. The names and contact information for these companies can be found on this website in the Patient Financing section. Many of our patients use some form of financing and report that these companies have been very helpful and effective. These financing companies have a variety of options including some “interest free” loans or loans as low as $300. Q. When do I pay for my cosmetic surgery procedures? A. Once you have selected a date for your cosmetic surgery and you are ready for our patient coordinator to schedule the surgery, we require ten percent of the surgeon’s fee as a deposit. The patient coordinator will make every effort to secure the requested date for your surgery as she must coordinate Dr. Hynes’ schedule with available dates at the hospital. In most cases your surgery can be scheduled on the date you requested. The final full payment is due two weeks before your scheduled surgery. We will also accept your payments for the anesthesia and hospital fees and deliver these payments for you to the respective offices prior to your surgery. Payment of non-surgical in-office procedures are paid for on the date of the service. In some cases a package or series of treatments may be planned. In that case, the package price is due the day of the first treatment. Q. How much “down time” should I plan after my surgery? A. Dr. Hynes does all of his cosmetic surgeries in the out-patient surgery department of the hospital. Most all patients go home the same day as their surgery. The hospital requires you arrange to have an adult caretaker (spouse, friend, etc.) with you the remainder of the day and overnight. You will be able to walk and take care of your own basic needs. Thanks to the ON-Q pain pump, the patients feel better faster but still must adhere to reduced physical activity for a short time. Dr. Hynes’ staff often have to caution patients to “take it easy”, with no heavy lifting even if they feel well. Q. How much time will I need to take off from work after my surgery? A. The surgical procedure you have and the amount of physical activity you use on the job will somewhat dictate when you can return to work. Dr. Hynes will discuss this with you during your consultation and advise you based on your individual situation and the restrictions specific to your surgery. If needed, Dr. Hynes is also willing to write a letter to your employer requesting limited physical activity on the job for a specific time period. Dr. Hynes is not obligated to disclose the type of surgery you had, only that you are under his care and require reduced physical activity. For example, a waitress who normally carries heavy trays of food could return to work sooner in the capacity of a hostess for a couple of weeks and not risk injury to her surgery site. Q. I smoke cigarettes. Is that a problem? A. Cigarette smoking has a definite negative effect on your general health, as you must certainly know. In addition, smoking increases the risk of pulmonary complications and can impede wound healing, which may decrease the quality of surgical results. Smoking affects healthy blood flow to the site of your surgery incision which often results in delayed healing of your surgery wound and puts you at an increase risk for infections. Thus, your surgical risks increase if you are a smoker. Dr. Hynes requires that you stop smoking for one to three months prior to surgery. The length of time depends on the procedure you are having and the number of cigarettes you smoke daily. Dr. Hynes will discuss this with you during your private consultation. Q. How much weight must I lose before I have a Tummy Tuck? A. Each patient is different and people carry their weight differently. During your consultation and following Dr. Hynes’ evaluation , he will determine the weight range you should be within to have the best result from our Tummy Tuck Surgery. Q. How long do I have to wear the binder after Liposuction? A. Dr. Hynes will provide you with a binder that he will want you to wear for two weeks. Q. I would like to have a Breast Augmentation. Is the Silicone Implant safe? A. The new Silicone Gel breast implant is FDA approved and very safe. Dr. Hynes has performed surgery on hundreds of patients who have chosen the silicone breast implant. They are very satisfied and have had no problems. Q. What is the difference between the Saline implant and Silicone implant? A. During your private consultation, Dr. Hynes will show you two types of implants. You can feel and hold them as he discusses the differences with you. He will advise you which implant he feels will give you the most natural result and then together you can make your selection. Q. How long after my breast augmentation can I stop wearing the sports bra? A. Dr. Hynes will ask you to purchase a sports bra before your breast augmentation surgery. He will also ask you to bring it to the office the day of your first follow-up visit after your surgery. He will ask that you wear the sports bra for two weeks, morning and night, following your surgery. Afterward, you can begin wearing all the gorgeous bras you have been wanting to wear! Q. When can I resume working out at the gym? A. Dr. Hynes asks that you wait three weeks following a breast augmentation; and wait five weeks after a tummy tuck. He will advise you specifically for the other cosmetic surgery procedures. Q. How soon can I resume sun tanning; outside or in a tanning bed? A. Dr. Hynes wants you to wait at least three weeks before tanning. He also will ask that you NEVER expose your incision to the sun or tanning lights. Your incision line is new delicate skin and can easily be damaged. Cover and protect the incision. Q. How long do I keep my drains in after the Tummy Tuck surgery? A. Temporary drains will be placed in your tummy at the conclusion of your Tummy Tuck surgery to drain the normal fluid that becomes present following your surgery. You will be given a form to record the measured amount of drainage two to three times daily. One of Dr. Hynes staff will telephone you daily and ask you to report the amount of drainage. Based on these reports, Dr. Hynes will ask you to return to the office and he will remove the drains within three to eight days following your surgery. Q. How long will my Face Lift last? A. Time and aging continue on, even following a face lift. However, your new rejuvenated appearance will always be better than it would have been without the Face Lift surgery. Life-long sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. In addition, a healthy, smoke-free lifestyle will help extend the results of your more youthful appearance. Dr. Hynes also recommends that you follow a carefully planned skin care program. He is happy to refer you to our Medical Aesthetician for a free skin analysis. She will start you on a skin care plan unique for your individual needs. Also remember to use good sun-screen daily. |
