We’re very lucky here at Hynes Plastic Surgery to have patients who are willing and excited to share their stories. One of our patients, Veronica (not her real name), generously agreed to be interviewed and share her experience with her recent cosmetic surgery.

HPS: Please tell us a little about the procedure you had done.

“Veronica”: I had two separate procedures: 1) Breast augmentation, and 2) Laser Lipo of my abdomen

HPS: Are you pleased with your results?

“Veronica”: Yes — I was very specific about what I wanted for my outcome, and was not disappointed. I let Dr. Hynes know that I just wanted back what going through having two children — and gravity — had taken away. I wanted my breasts to look as natural as possible — not up really high, nor sticking out past my body on the sides with a huge gap between them! As for my stomach, I had one c-section, which had left me with some extra fat that no amount of exercise would eliminate. The laser lipo removed that without the brutality and the recovery of traditional liposuction.

HPS:  Why did you choose Dr. Hynes?

“Veronica”: I chose him based upon his reputation, credentials and my impression after having a consultation with him. He was very candid, answered all of my questions, and told me what I DIDN’T need done. For example, he told me that I was not a candidate for a tummy tuck and recommended the laser lipo as the better (and also less expensive) alternative. He also would not do laser lipo on my thighs, saying that there was not enough fat to warrant it. (I disagree on that last point, but appreciate that he won’t perform unnecessary procedures!)

HPS: What would you tell other women considering a procedure with Dr. Hynes?

“Veronica”: I am open and honest with my friends about the work I’ve had. I had lots of questions before my surgeries, and hope that I can help my friends who are considering cosmetic procedures to be educated and more comfortable with their choices. You should definitely choose a surgeon that is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Never go to a surgeon who doesn’t offer the On-Q Pain Pump!! Go to a free consultation with Dr. Hynes — what have you got to lose?!

HPS: Would you consider working with Dr. Hynes again in the future? What procedure?

“Veronica”: Yes — I’m really pleased with my results and the way my body looks at almost 44 years old. I don’t think I need any other procedures currently, but would definitely use Dr. Hynes if I do in the future.

A Patient recently asked about Adult Acne on our facebook.  Many adults report some occasional facial blemishes and breakouts during their adulthood.  And, indeed, it can be referred to as adult acne. HPS: Please tell us a little about the procedure you had done.

“Sydney”: I had a breast lift and a small reduction to even out my (breast) cup size.

HPS: Are you pleased with your results?

“Sydney”: I am very pleased with the results. I always had nicely proportioned breasts that were very perky. That all changed after nursing two children. I hated looking into the mirror and not being able to see where my breasts ended and my stomach began. I struggled with the way I was looking. I decided that I needed to make a change. The final straw came when my 4 year old freaked out when I had my PJ’s on with no bra and I leaned over him. My breast flopped on his head and he began to “freak out”. He yelled “What are those and why are you hitting me with them?!” Well, that was it. A change needed to happen. I had also been having back pains by the end of the day. I always thought that it was due to lugging my children around. Since I have had the surgery I have not had any back problems at all. I had no clue!

HPS: Why did you choose Dr. Hynes?

“Sydney”: I had checked into many doctors. An acquaintance was talking about the procedure she had done by Dr. Hynes. I met with Dr. Hynes and felt instantly at ease. Dr. Hynes was the first doctor who spoke to me about his plan to even out the difference in cup size. I was taken aback that he was the first in a line of doctors who addressed this issue. I also liked the fact that the surgery was going to be done at a hospital.

HPS: Would you recommend Dr. Hynes to other women considering a cosmetic procedure?

“Sydney”: I would absolutely and have recommended Dr. Hynes to other women. All of the members of Dr. Hynes’ staff are very professional and warm. I would say, “go for it!”

HPS: Did you have concerns about the surgery?

“Sydney”: I have to say I was afraid that I was going to be in pain. I can honestly say I had NO pain. Not only was the contemplation of pain an issue so was the money. I struggled with spending that kind of money on myself…..Would I be taking something away from my family? I believe I made the right investment in my body. What is that saying? “If mom isn’t happy then nobody is happy.” I am now happy with the way my breasts look and there is no back pain.

HPS: Would you select Dr. Hynes for future cosmetic surgery if you needed some?

“Sydney”: Absolutely! I would only choose Dr. Hynes. Now that I am able to see my stomach, I realize I need to have a little work done there as well. I am also interested in work that could be done on my thighs and hips. I am starting my wish list.

This time of year we are inundated with the need for wearing Sun Screen — the TV, Radio, and Print materials tell us the dangers of not protecting our skin from the sun.  We know that repeated and ongoing exposure to the UV radiation from the sun and indoor tanning beds causes our skin to age earlier with wrinkles and to develop brown spots and discolorations from the sun.  In extreme instances, repeated sun exposure can cause skin cancers and the deadliest form, Melanoma.  Many of us grew up thinking the more sun tan we had, the more attractive we were.  Unbelievably there are still a few people who hold onto this thought!

Every year there are more and more sun screen choices to buy and it gets pretty confusing.  Who has the time to read all the labels to make the best choice?

We carry 4 sun screens by SKINCEUTICALS and we think they are great.  There are 2 we especially like and our patients have found to be very effective.  One is the

SPORT 45 which has an SPF of 45 but also it does not wash off with sweat and perspiration and it lasts for several hours.  This is especially perfect for those of you who enjoy outdoor sports in the summer (golf, tennis, baseball, etc.) — either as a participant or an observer.  This is also great for those of you who spend time at a lake or enjoy water sports as SPORT 45 lasts longer than most other sun screens.  You don’t have to keep re-applying it every couple of hours.

Our second favorite sun screen is the SPF 50, SHEER PHYSICAL UV DEFENSE.

This sunscreen is very sheer and it is chemical free.  Because it is translucent in color, it is a great choice to put under makeup at the beginning of the day.   It is also great to share with that special man in your life who objects to wearing sun screen because he doesn’t like the feel of “creamy stuff” on his face.  This is also effective for the entire body.
